Love our weekends and quality time together!

It really has been a fun weekend and we have certainly made the most of every second of every day. I love being able to hang out with my daughter and enjoy the quality time we have with each other and our friends. I hope you found time to enjoy your kids and weekend!

On Friday after school got out we had several friends come over for a swim. I love to see the kids all having fun and getting along. It could not have been a better afternoon and evening hanging out with Alyssa, Katelyn, Shazy, RJ and Ryan. It was pool time with some pizza and snacks for dinner!

On Saturday we went and watched Katelyn play her last softball game. She is just too cute, on Friday she won the award for most stylish and I will say she continued to live up to that on the softball field. I will try to post some long overdue pictures today.

Then we were off to the city water park with Shazy where we also met up with Katelyn and her mom Kathy. It was a lot of fun and VERY HOT! After a short nap Demi got up and went to see the movie UP 3D with Shazy and her dad. She said is was good and so funny! Upon arriving at home she was out on the couch for the night. She was exhausted to say the least after getting to bed late on Friday and up on Saturday topped off with lots of sunshine.

I have been working on my Project 365 finally. I have been printing pictures for the past 6 weeks now that I have some ink for my printer. I will try to get all my pictures in the book today while trying to get caught up on the journaling cards. I think in 22 weeks since I started in December I have only missed one day of taking picture. The idea of this book is to document everyday for a year in our life. I have loved taking the pictures and find it hard on some days to choose which picture I will use. Anyone else doing this book?

Some blogs I have enjoyed this past week are as follows and I wanted to thank each of them personally for taking the time to write daily for so many of us to enjoy. Thank you!

http://www.teresacollins.typepad.com/
http://www.aliedwards.typepad.com/ - you have to see this idea that she has on her blog today. ast night I was thinking that I might start writing about one person every day in our lives that we are thankful for and why. This flower that she has on there would be perfect to use with this idea.

I will be back to post again with our POTD and some pages from our Project 365. This is being made by both Demi and I sharing the camera so you get her 8 year old perspective as well as mine.

Diana

Award Ceremony for 3rd Grade today!

It is really hard to believe that my little baby is now going to be in the 4th grade! I am so proud of her and the person she is and has become. Her heart is the size of Texas and she brings so much happiness and laughter whereever she is or is with everyday!

This year has certainly been challenging and so much different than 2nd grade for many reasons. I will say that I understand why parents decide to home school. Now let me explain, here in Texas we have the TAKs test which starts in 3rd grade. This year they tested in reading which they have to pass to move on to 4th grade and also they tested in Math. If you can believe this, their math class was an hour and a half every day, all year long. Demi really did well in math and gave it her all. But do you know what I found out last week? The Math TAKs test does not even count in their grades, hard to believe! I guess like everything there is nothing that is perfect but to focus focus on something so huge in this district to have it not count makes no sense to this mom. I came to find out this year more so in the past that she is such a social butterfly (Okay she has always been this way but has always made the AB and A honor roll)and that although she loves school and her friends, education is not her only priority at school? Hmm? This year 2008-2009 was the first time she didn't end up on the AB honor roll. Maybe she isnt going to be an AB student but I know she is capable. I always felt like I was judged by how well I matched up to others and told myself I would not do that to Demi. But it is hard. Why? I am judging myself based on her grades, could I have done more? Or is this the time they have to decide as 8 and 9 year olds that it is all about them and being RESPONSIBLE? I personally think they expect so much from them and have this year. The saddest part for me is that I don't think the the teachers enjoy teaching and how they have to teach because of the TAKS testing. Isn't it sad that they dont have time to laugh and enjoy what they are learning? That kids can't be kids because every 5 minutes someone is getting a number. This is another issue with me but I will save this for another time. I remember always having so much fun and enjoying school and being with teachers who did as well. I really believe that you have to make the most of your situation and surroundings because nothing is perfect. I try to remind Demi that it is a privilege to get an education here in the US and so many of us take that for granted. I will say that I do appreciate our teachers as a whole and all the love and encouragement they give our children on a daily basis. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Again I will say that I am so proud of her and am so appreciative that she is a well rounded child with a love for life. She never lets a second go by without living it and that brings me joy and exhaustion. But I wouldn't trade it for anything! So I am going to enjoy her accomplishments and who she is and not define this one year to who she is and or will become. I am going to surprise her and her best friend tonight with dinner out, a nighttime swim and whatever else comes our way today. I will be back to post a picture of Demi at her award ceremony today. Oh and did I say how much I am looking forward to a new school year and a new set of teachers and a new word of the year while leaving the "Responsibility" word behind!!!! Way to go Demi and 3rd grade students at Donna Park.

Have a wonderful Friday,
Diana

Pay it Forward on Thursdays - Random Ideas

I am all about making the world a better place and love that we can each do our part everyday with little things.

Some of my favorite random acts of kindness are:

1. Trim my neighbors bushes
2. Take sonic drinks to my dd teacher's on Fridays
3. Offer to go to Sonic for our school office staff so they have drinks as well...they love it by the way..
4. Twice a week we treat our trashman to drinks and snacks...we miss our good friends who had this route for a couple of years but love making them feel special..I am really appreciative of what they do every week. Plus when it is 95 plus, the drinks go a long way!
5. Random love notes left around house for dd
6. Serve in any way needed at church if available
7. Leave messages for girls on the bathroom mirrors - they love this!
8. Buy the person behind me their meal going through the drive through - I did this once and my next door neighbor was behind me - that was really fun!
9. Bake treats for teachers and staffs
10. Wash towells and wash rags from school every week - this is small but so needed!
11. Let folks go in front me in stores if they have a small load and I am not in a hurry
12. Take carts back to the rack they belong and also offer to help the elderly when I can
13. babysit...(our home as become a daycare the last couple of years but I love it and can since I work from home)
14. Back up sitter
15. Take pictures for many many...I also love this!
16. Scrapbooks all year for gifts
17. Smile - this is really such a simple thing to do and doesn't cost a thing!

I am sure there are more but this is all I can think of now. I am off to look at a blog where I know there are many more great ideas that I will share with you shortly.

I want to come up with some fun ways to Pay It Forward and would love to hear your suggestions.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your suggestions!

Create and Live Your BEST Life Today...

As I was reading a blog today I came across this book called Do The Hard Things by Alex and Brett Harris. There is a quote which I came across as well in the book that I love and am striving to do everyday with my own life:

"What each of us will become later in life largely depends on what we become now."

Don't you just love this quote?

Since my recruiting business has slowed down tremendously with the economy taking a dive, I have had a lot of time to think and really appreciate what I have been able to do in the last 14 years with my business not to mention being able to work from home since having my daughter almost 9 years ago.

I am hoping that some of my clients will decide to start hiring again and soon so that I can maintain our lifestyle and home but if not I also thought that our home is not the outside walls and yard but the love on the inside. I am happy to say that I am at peace no matter what happens and that this is only a small dot in the journey of life. God has blessed me and us so much.

What about you? Are you making some life changing moves now? Were you happy with your job and career? Were you spending the time with your families? Are you passionate about life and where you are and if not what would it take for you to get there? I am making strides but it is a daily thing and I am a work in progress.

I will be back shortly to post some pics of this afternoon and also with some more pics of my nieces dance recital at 7pm.

Oh and lastly, I think the tooth fairy might be stopping in tonight to collect more teeth for her tooth castle. This is 5 teeth - woohoo! All in one year too!

Memorial Day Weekend 2009

Thanks Pooks for sharing these on your blog today!

http://www.leblahg.com/on-the-download/

I too love Fridays and the weekends! I am really excited because tomorrow Demi is going with some of the girls in her Girl Scout Troop to Glenrose to earn 3 badges. I can't wait for her to do and enjoy the wilderness at the dinosaur park.

And today my niece, Cami graduated from kindergarten this morning! She was so cute and we are so proud of her and the great year she had!!

Some other great news, Devin's scans all came back clear this week which is always an answered prayer from up above. We are so thankful for all the prayers and friends lifting him up daily. He truly is an amazing little 4 year old. He has lived a big life in his short 4 years to say the least. HE IS STILL CANCER FREE, THANK YOU LORD!

This week has been challenging to say the least. Times are tough financially but somehow we will make it as we did back after 9/11 when the economy turned south in a fast way. I will be happy when business starts to pick up again and companies start using recruiters to fill openings. Until then I am not sure what I am going to do to earn money. Maybe a garage sale tomorrow, sell my Creative Memories Albums, collect all our coins to use for gas and food and possibly ask the church. I actually went to the bank this week to see about getting a loan only to leave feeling even more beaten down. It was not what I expected and or hoped for upon arriving and leaving there. It amazes me at how others will judge others when they know nothing about them. We live in a harsh and fallen world. I really felt sorry for the banker upon leaving.

So what is everyone doing for Memorial Day and the holiday weekend? We have been invited out to Grapevine Lake on a 40 ft cabin cruiser with some family of family for the afternoon so we will probably end up there for some fun, swimming and food. Lots of kids too so Demi will hopefully have fun even though this will only be her 2nd time in a lake. (The last time she was not to crazy about but again she has a beautiful blue pool in her backyard.) What ever you do have fun and be safe!!

Hugs,
Diana

PIFfing today (Paying It Forward)

I saw this on www.helpothers.org and thought this was worth sharing today. Most of you know that I believe in the power of paying it forward one person at a time so that we can all do our part in making this world a better place.

"To give without any reward, or any notice, has a special quality of its own." -- Anne Morrow Lindbergh

Idea of the Week

"This morning I baked my favourite chocolate-chip-and-peanut cookies, filled a tin and wrote a thank you card. On Wednesdays, the "eco-bus" stops on our street so that people can drop off their recyclable waste. The people working in the bus are always so helpful, taking your bags to empty them into the appropriate containers. Today, I waited until there were some other people on the bus and the workers would not notice me. I got on through the front door and simply put my tin of cookies with the card on the little ledge by the windscreen and went on to put my waste into the containers. I was so proud that nobody had noticed. I'd love to have seen the face of the driver when he sat down to drive on and found the tin." - pat

I am thankful....

Morning friends!!

Today I am thankful....

1. For the gift of life and today!
2. For God's blessings and His protection
3. For miracles and answered prayers
4. For my faith, family and friends
5. For beautiful weather today
6. For business and the opportunity to make some placements this week
7. For Brylee's dedication this weekend - what a blessing!
8. For the basics like electricity, water, heat and AC
9. For getting to hear Anthony Evans this weekend - wonderful Christian singer that was a guest at my sister's church - he was so awesome!
10. For a new week, new beginnings and a fresh new week
11. For PIFs and RAKs - what can I do today?

Have a great day ladies and create the life you want. Be the best you can be and remember to live in the moment!!

Making Your Own Laundry Detergent....

I ran across this today on www.simpledollar.com in which Trent shows you as to make this detergent. I am so going to give this a try as soon as I can buy the needed ingredients because I am looking for ways to save money in this economic and financial crisis we are facing one way or another. Thanks Trent!

Here’s what you need:- 1 bar of soap (whatever kind you like; I used Lever 2000 because we have tons of bars of it from a case we bought a while back)- 1 box of washing soda (look for it in the laundry detergent aisle at your local department store - it comes in an Arm & Hammer box and will contain enough for six batches of this stuff)- 1 box of borax (this is not necessary, but I’ve found it really kicks the cleaning up a notch - one box of borax will contain more than enough for tons of batches of this homemade detergent - if you decide to use this, be careful)- A five gallon bucket with a lid (or a bucket that will hold more than 15 liters - ask around - these aren’t too tough to acquire)- Three gallons of tap water- A big spoon to stir the mixture with- A measuring cup- A knife
Step One: Put about four cups of water into a pan on your stove and turn the heat up on high until it’s almost boiling. While you’re waiting, whip out a knife and start shaving strips off of the bar of soap into the water, whittling it down. Keep the heat below a boil and keep shaving the soap. Eventually, you’ll shave up the whole bar, then stir the hot water until the soap is dissolved and you have some highly soapy water.
Step Two: Put three gallons of hot water (11 liters or so) into the five gallon bucket - the easiest way is to fill up three gallon milk jugs worth of it. Then mix in the hot soapy water from step one, stir it for a while, then add a cup of the washing soda. Keep stirring it for another minute or two, then add a half cup of borax if you are using borax. Stir for another couple of minutes, then let the stuff sit overnight to cool.
And you’re done. When you wake up in the morning, you’ll have a bucket of gelatinous slime that’s a paler shade of the soap that you used (in our case, it’s a very pale greenish blue). One measuring cup full of this slime will be roughly what you need to do a load of laundry - and the ingredients are basically the same as laundry detergent. Thus, out of three gallons, you’ll get about 48 loads of laundry. If you do this six times, you’ll have used six bars of soap ($0.99 each), one box of washing soda ($2.49 at our store), and about half a box of borax ($2.49 at our store, so $1.25) and make 288 loads of laundry. This comes up to a cost of right around three cents a gallon, or a savings of $70.
Plus, you can make slime in the kitchen - and have a legitimate reason for doing so!

Bargain Wednesday - Free Deals at Target and Making Your Own Laundry Detergent

Happy Wednesday to you today! Here in Texas it is a beautiful humid and somewhat warm day. I am going to post a picture today of our new bird feeder that brings us so much joy as we watch all the birds adn squirrels daily.

So how about a Wednesday post with some bargains from Target to start the day.

The first being some coupons for items at Target that will end up being free while others will end up costly you barely nothing. These were posted on another site so I thought I would share them with you. I have to admit I am in the mod of saving money and or not spending money right now. I am also looking for ways to cut spending and will share another article I found today about making your own laundry detergent. I will link you to both blogs as well.

How fun right? So do you know how to get items for FREE? I have found at our local Walgreens that they randomly put items on sale. Just last week I got 2 fanny packs, nice and big, great colors for under 4.00 which normally would have been 20.00. Also I bought 2 large candles for under 3.00 that would have been 20.00 for both. Also a few weeks ago I bought sporting t-shirts for under 1.50 each that normally would have been at least 10.00. They included Dallas Mavs, Texas Colleges such at Texas Tech and UT in Austin. They make great gifts. Who doesn't love a new t'shirt? I will post back later today if I make it in today to let you know what they have. I also figure it is a good way to possibly make some money by selling them on craiglist.

I will be back to post how to make your own laundry detergent that will get you 312 loads of laundry for just under 7.00. Now that is a great savings and you can add the smell you would like with a bar of soap.

Make it a great day and remember to find time to Pay It Forward today.

Happy Mother's Day 2009!!

I hope everyone has a great Mother's Day with your children and families today. I am still trying to decide what we will be having today at 4pm. It is either hotdogs an turkey burgers and or chicken express with some peppers and corn nuggets.

So what are you doing today?

Being a mother is the greatest responsibility and I am so blessed to have been given that to care for Demi. It has almost been 9 years of fun, laughter, challenges, joy and tears of happiness since becoming a mom. I wouldn't trade any of it for anything. What amazes me is how fast the time has gone and that Demi will be in 4th grade next year. She is so full of energy and life. She is always on the go and lives every second of every minute of every hour of every day and that could be an understatement. I can remember praying to God after dad passed to give me someting to wake up to and that prayer was answered. Again I am so blessed!

Now ab0ut my mom, she is the world's greatest mom in the world. I have never met another mom in this world who measures up to her. She is always there and ready to help. She is so giving and would give you her last dime if you needed it. She was always there for us when we were children and now as adults and parents ourselves. Our kids and her grandchildren are so blessed to have her with them today. It was so good to go to church with her today. Just being with her and enjoying having her here another day. I thought it would be fun for each of us to make comment cards with our most favorable memory of her and to put it into a book today. Love you mom!

I also have an adopted mom who Demi calls gramma Dorothy whom we love dearly. We love you too!

I will be back later to post about our day and to share some pictures.

I hope whatever you do you enjoy yourselves immensely!!

Blessings,
Diana

Teacher Appreciation Week!!

We so love our teachers at Donna Park! It has really been fun spoiling them this week . Each grade brings different foods for each day and then the PTA hosts a luncheon for all of our staff, cafeteria women and our maintenance team. This years theme was Mexican which worked out great with Cinco De Mayo. What is really nice is that each one gets a door prize upon leaving to end the lunch. Julie did a great job with the food and Laura did a great job obtaining great certificates from local businesses. Thanks everyone for always willing to pitch in to make this a super duper week for all of them.

It is time for Thankful Thursday sinced I missed this all week -

1. Thankful for God's continued blessings and His protection

2. Thankful for my faith, family and friends - love our neighbors too!

3. Thankful for our home filled with children and love.

4. Thankful for spring

5. Thankful for Cindy Adams at Donna Park - we will so miss her next year!

6. Thankful for the gift of life - make the most of it!

Last weekend was National Scrapbooking Day and I made a couple of layouts for some challenges. This one was about 10 things good about me - it is up above. I love experimenting with the paints!

Then I picked up a challenge to scrap a layout. The one I lifted looked similiar to this one I made. The best part of this was how much fun Demi and I had fishing in Forney a few weeks ago. I could never understand how guys could go fishing weekend after weekend but I have to admit it was so fun!
I am still loving my Project 365 we are taking pictures or a picture daily to document our lives. It really does change the way you look at life. My only issue is that somedays it is hard to just pick on picture. I will take a picture of my book this weekend and upload a picture so you can see what I am doing and how my book looks after 5 months worth of pictures.
So go and enjoy and make the most of your day and the opportunities to make the world a better place today! Paying it Forward and your Random Acts of Kindness will go a long way one person at a time. If you do this today please let me know. I am always looking for great ideas too.
Hugs and blessings,
Diana aka BIT (BlessedinTexas)

TIGF......(Today I am grateful for)

Happy Friday everyone!

I love Friday's and my weekends so I am always happy to see Fridays get here! I also love Spring and what it brings, birds chirping, green grass, beatutiful flowers, children playing outside, kites flying and people walking with their children and pets. What about you, what changes do you see in your life and household? For us it seems that our days are longer so we squeeze in more in a day if that is possible due to the sun staying out longer. But in reality there are the same number of hours so it is ironic how our mind change with something as simple as sunlight can change our days and what we do and accomplish. Isn't that the way it is with life?

So with that I am going to start my day with my grateful list so that I get my day started on a positive note.

**My challenge today because I love opportunities to Pay It Forward is to do one thing today to make someone else's day better - anything, JUST DO IT as nike would say!! I am grateful for Random Acts of Kindness, it really does feel so good on the inside do something small or big to make their day better. I was wonder if my act of kindness will set off a chain of continual acts during the day. I hope so...we are in a time when I think everyone could use some love and something to fill good about even if for a moment.

Today I am grateful for.......

1. Sunshine and more of it
2. My faith, my family and friends
3. God's continues blessings and His protection today
4. My business which I hope will bring in some money soon
5. My home filled with fun, drama, forgiveness, laughter, fun colors and love, God's love.
6. Caffeine
7. Great neighborhood
8. Misc things such as electricity, food, gas, water, a working car, ceiling fans, comfy beds, flannel sheets, downy and good smelling laundry, tp, toothpaste, hot showers, ACs, comfy clothes and shoes, our pool which is lived in the summer, companies willing to work with me when not able to pay my bills on time and our pooch
9. Candles and room refreshner
10. Music
11. Pictures and cameras - the ability and desire to capture life
12. Our good health - such a blessing with no insurance
13. HOPE, hope that many will feel God's love, the economy will turn around soon and the swine flu will be gone soon
14.NSD - looking forward to some fun things at SIStv http://www.scrapinstyletv.com/ this weekend!

Bible verse for today: The generous soul will be made rich - Proverbs 11:25

So be a generous soul today, develop a "generous eye" - make a choice today to find someone who could use a prayer, a hug and knowing that someone does care!!

I will be back today to post some pics and layouts and I am determined to figure out more of how to bling this blog....DETERMINATION WILL AND CAN TAKE YOU A LONG WAY!!

**Okay so I talked with 2 of my bestest friends from jr high school this week/today and realized how blessed I am to still have them in our lives...Carla is a wonderful Christian lady who is such a proud mom. It is hard to believe that after next year she will have an empty house when her one and only dd leaves for college. This weekend she is in Wyoming/Montana where her youngest son is competing in a rodeo in bulldogging and team roping - doesnt that sound like fun? I am going to make sure we start visiting more often then we do instead of once a year on our Girls Night Out. Are you like that with your good friends? I just love this woman and am so glad we are still great friends - she was one of the first friends I had when I moved here in 1977 when we were only 14 or 15 yrs old. She is the one with the black cross on. Isn't she beautiful? Then my friend Holli is in the pink shirt/brunette hair, another friend that I have known since moving here. She is also a beautiful woman who has 2 great children, her first about to graduate. Anyway I posted some additional pics of Demi for Carla to see today while she is out of town. This is Demi going to her first daddy daughter valentine dance with our friend Tim. His dd Savanna and Demi are friends from church, I was so appreciative that he asked her to go. She has so much fun!

Have a happy day and make it a great day!
